Let me tell you what ELSE is good

Before, I told you that those yummy Betty Crocker Warm Delights were good.

I’ve found a new 150 calorie snack which serves to satisfy my sweet tooth and provides enough fiber to sustain me for quite some time. I LOVE Quaker’s Simple Harvest Granola Bars. That’s saying something because I don’t really care for most granola bars. Previously, I would ride for those Nature Valley Oat & Honey bars. Tasty, but always too crunchy. Not enough chewy. You can feel good about Quaker’s bars because they are made with whole grain oats, provide two grams of fiber and two grams of protein per serving, and contain all natural ingredients like whole wheat, oats, barley, fruits, and nuts.

I was in Pathmark and figured I’d try these Simple Harvest bars because, well they were on sale. Good enough for me! The only flavor left was the Chocolate Chunk. Eh, not my first choice but like I said, they were on sale and I needed a snack I could toss in my bag for when I have late classes. I tried one and MMmmmm! The dark chocolate is perfect because it satisfies the sweet tooth without going overboard. The bar is chewy but still maintains a crunch (not like wimpy cereal bars). I think Chocolate Chunk will remain my fave, but the bars also come in Honey Roasted Nut and Cinnamon Brown Sugar w/Apples & Cranberries. I’m tempted to try the latter since I don’t care for the nuts.

The Simple Harvest line also includes a hot cereal that I have yet to try. Want to try a FREE SAMPLE? Click here, try it out and then let me know what you think.

I guess we’ll really have to stop clowning him now

Republican, retired U.S. General and former “Uncle Tom” Colin Powell has endorsed Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States. According to the New York Times, Powell is the highest profile Republican to back Obama and that’s saying something. Or maybe it isn’t.

Several years ago, Colin Powell was the butt of many jokes in Black America. Sure, we respected his professional, political and military accomplishments, but there was something wrong with him being all chummy with the worst political family ever. It’s kind of like the way some of us feel about Condoleeza Rice. Wonderful intellect and awesome career path but the sneaking suspicion that she’s seen Dubya naked won’t win her any cool points within the Sista Circle anytime soon.

Recently, though, I started to feel a bit sorry for Colin Powell. You could tell that he was pretty fed up with the way things were going in the Bush Administration and that although he was a Republican, he just didn’t agree wholeheartedly with the “orthodoxy of the Republican agenda.”
Reportedly in 2004, Powell referred to the neo-conservatives of the Bush administration as “fucking crazies”. Oh word Colin? I was thinking the same thing! In a letter to Sen. John McCain, Powell expressed opposition to President Bush’s push for military tribunals and pointed out that perception of the War on Terror may be losing moral support saying, “The world is beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism,” a.k.a. “The world thinks we’re fucking crazies, John.”

Powell had some things to say about Sarah Palin’s inexperience and McCain’s narrow view towards the issues facing America. I appreciated him speaking out about how McCain has lost focus and has gone “too far” with the Ayers accusations and other approaches. Powell called out fellow Republicans condoning the “Obama is a Muslim” chatter. “So what if he is?” said Powell. What’s wrong with a 7 year old Muslim kid dreaming he can be President? Check out the Meet The Press interview where Powell endorses Obama.

Guess we had to know that he was going to get “real” sooner or later. He’s a first-generation Jamaican-American from the South Bronx for goodness sake!

We're docking you 2 pts for those "finger guns", mon.

Somehow, I think that many conservatives and Republicans will try to discount the magnitude of this endorsement by simplfiying Powell’s choice down to “It’s because he’s Black.” That has been one of the most annoying assumptions throughout this LONG campaign but I am sure Colin Powell will not be immune to it.
